Alpine Snowcraft Trips

Guidelines for Trip Leaders

Leaders of MTSC trips are asked to follow these guidelines when organising and leading Club trips

Alpine Programme

MTSC is running a snowcraft programme this year (2016)

A basic snowcraft weekend scheduled for 30-31 July 2016 has been postponed until 20-21 August.

There are several trips on the trip card that will allow you to practice your skills above the bushline. Here is a description of what we usually cover on an alpine skills weekend.

Learn or refresh the skills that will help you in your "above bushline" adventures. This trip is suitable for anyone who aspires to tramp in the backcountry during Winter and covers some or all of:

  • Travelling on snow
  • Arresting a slide
  • Use of ice axe and crampons
  • Emergency shelters
  • And more.
This course, or an equivalent level of experience, is a prerequisite for club trips such as snowcaving and ski Ngauruhoe.
See the trip card for contact details.
